By late 2025 ✹ we aim to open our warehouse, storefront, and community center in Austin, Texas!
We’re here to redefine the word 'waste.'

What others discard, we transform. Your unusable clothes become valuable materials with endless potential—remade jackets, stuffed animals, home insulation, couch stuffing, and whatever else we can dream up. Material Union represents a vision of working together to build systems of support— for each other, for the planet, and for a sustainable future.
Why are we called Material ✷ Union?
We chose a name to reflect our mission to foster union & reciprocity — between people, the Earth & the materials we’ve polluted it with.
It’s also a tribute to the power of unionized labor, cooperatively owned businesses, and the importance of protecting workers’ rights. Fair wages and safe working conditions are often denied to workers globally (even in our own backyard). We’re committed to creating a workplace that sets a new standard for equity and respect.
We’re building a ✹ textile recycling facility
By summer 2025, we aim to open our warehouse, storefront, and community center.

It all started with a quilt coat.
We originally began by wanting to preserve the beauty of these handmade, heirloom quilts by re-imaging them as coats. But the reality is that can only divert so much waste, one coat at a time.
So we sought out a way to not only salvage as much clothing from landfill as possible, but also create an avenue to create fair-wage jobs within a worker-owned company. Being cooperatively owned, we’re directly building communal wealth and ownership within marginalized communities.

love from the community:
Material Union started out of a desire to create a business that will Benefit generations to come and bring us home to our Connection with the Earth.
